Thankful Thursday

It's been a rough week....yet I'm still thankful :) As always, in no particular order.........

* My wonderful hubby who always knows the right things to say to make me laugh and for taking off this morning for our appointment. (My favorite quote of the week from TJ: "Honey, it is time to step off the emotional roller coaster, you've been on it long enough, let someone else have a ride.") It was just what I needed to hear to make me laugh :) I really lucked out when I married my best friend!

* Ashley....I seriously don't know how I made it through the day for the few weeks you were gone....our talks help me face the day with a smile. I realize how lucky I am to work with such a wonderful friend! Thank you for always making me laugh, checking on me, and remaining positive :) I have a feeling we will BOTH need our snow gear soon!

* You might want to sit down for this one.....I am thankful that my boss came into my office this evening and said, "You really don't have to stay tonight cause I'm gonna be here for the event!" Needless to say....I'm home now, in my pj's writing this blog!!!

* Leo....I know I have said it before, but this has been a tough "work month" and everyday when I come home, he is SUPER excited (crying, kisses, entire butt waggin) to see me. He always makes me smile and forget what happened at work.

* Shannon for stopping by frequently to say "hi" and share funny stories with me.

* Kelly and Joanne who always keep me smiling. I know it gets rough and you deal with lots of "crap," but you do make work fun. Thanks for bringing it around town, Kelly :) Joanne thanks for the many, "that's what she said," jokes!

* The kindergarten student who was super excited to tell me all about the "tits" he found on the playground..."big tits, little tits!" (he is in speech and was trying to say "sticks!")

* Hershey kisses.....while I only allow myself to have no more than 2 a day.....they help :)

* My nephew Erik who left me a message on my phone that I check frequently to make me smile :)

Random Thoughts

Not sure if you have heard this song or not........but I think it's amazing! It has been in many movies...but the Notebook is one of my favorites so I picked this video clip. My hubby has been gone this weekend and this song makes me think of him :) I wanted this to be our wedding song, but we both thought it would be cut too short due to the breakout funny dance portion of our first dance. Just wanted to share it with you.

Why ???

I know that asking "why?" usually sends me in circles....but seriously....WHY? It's getting hard to understand why certain things happen. I've always been the one to say, "things happen for a reason, just believe." I guess it is just getting harder and harder to believe. I've decided that the bad/sad news has to come to an end............so I am declaring today the end of negative news!!! Here's to hoping that the future brings everyone happiness, health, dreams come true, happy hearts and love!!!

He fought the dog and the dog won.........

Our neighbors Jose and Marlene invited us over for a burgers last night and we had fun, especially with the beautiful weather. They have a boxer/rottweiler mix, named Samson, that weighs about 115 pounds....all muscle. After TJ had a few adult beverages, he decided to wrestle with Samson.....from the picture below you can see that Samson won :) I have to admit that I was a little worried at first because TJ's eye was literally bleeding, but it was just from the scratch, which went under his eye! It looks much worse in person :(
So the lesson of the day........don't get drunk and wrestle with dogs :)
TJ's Eye :(
Samson is on the left.....I know they look like Aliens!!!

Bed and Breakfast

Let me just start by saying that our romantic weekend getaway at By the Side of the Road Bed and Breakfast in Harrisonburg was AMAZING and just what we needed :) As we were driving home we kept commenting on how it was just long enough to relax, enjoy each other and forget about everything else. This was our first Bed and Breakfast experience and while we stayed in a cottage, away from the main house, we felt super spoiled. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a beautiful cottage with soothing music playing in the background and rose pedals on the bed (thanks to my wonderful hubby). Our cottage was two stories with a king sized bed and TV upstairs and then down the spiral staircase to a huge jetted whirlpool tub with a huge fireplace. Shockingly neither TJ or I fell down the stairs!! Soon after we arrived we got ready for a fancy dinner at the Joshua Wilton House and can I just say OMG.........it was probably some of the best food we have ever had. It was a three course meal with a glass of wine. TJ got shepherds pie, salmon with this amazing mac-n-cheese and creme bruelee and I had sauteed mushrooms, ribs over risotto and chocolate souffle. Our waitress asked if it was our anniversary to which we responded, "Not yet," but she still brought us something extra with our dessert (see pictures). On Sunday we went to Cave Ridge Winery for a tasting and a picnic (provided by our B&B). It was a perfect day for a picnic in the mountains. We traveled around and hiked a small portion of the Appalachian trail before returning for some hand dipped ice cream. We went to Jack Browns for dinner (awesome burgers, sweet potato fries and fried Oreo's (yes, fried Oreo's....delicious). Jack Brown's is a little college bar with only a few seats. Needless to say, TJ and I left feeling very old as I'm sure we were the oldest ones in the bar and the only ones not trying to fill up a card with our top 100 beers....hehehehe :) Breakfast was served in a picnic basket to our cottage door every morning around 9:15 am and was delicious. Taking a relaxing bath with a fire going right next to you is AMAZING....I'm still trying to figure out how to put one our bathroom upstairs :)
All in all it was a much needed relaxing vacation where all we had to do was think about and spend time with each other. We highly recommend this B&B for some much need R&R :)

This was our attempt at taking a picture of us sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch of our cottage :(

Stampin Up

Inspired by my good friend, Ashley, I have found a new hobby :) I don't have all my supplies yet, but here are a few of the cards I made this weekend :) Please keep in mind that I am new at this......so the cards aren't that elaborate! I will continue to post my creations as I get more practice. For now, I'm pretty proud of myself :) Sorry for the blurry pictures....my camera wasn't cooperating.

Skiing at Whitetail

I know this is a little bit overdue....but I finally got TJ to go skiing :) I won ski passes from DC101...probably because not too many other people are up and driving to work when I am....nonetheless....a free ski trip was my way of getting the hubby on the slopes. Now I LOVE skiing and have been many times with friends and family and even have my own ski's.
On a beautiful Saturday in January, we traveled to Whitetail for a fun filled day of skiing!
The day started off a little rocky since my ski boots were way too tight (I literally couldn't feel my toes) so I ended up having to go back and rent ski's before we hit the slopes.
TJ did an awesome job (even if he complained the first few times). He didn't fall while getting off the slopes and actually let me take his poles and teach him how to turn. After several rounds on the bunny slope, we took a break for lunch. Why do you devour your food when skiing. Anywho, after lunch, TJ was on a roll and had mastered the bunny slope and decided to go up on the bigger chair lift to try out a long green run. Now had we inspected the map more closely, we would have noticed that a small part of the long green trail turned into a blue trail. Let's just say that TJ did a great job (despite it being more difficult and higher up on the mountain) UNTIL we hit the blue part of the trail. I honestly think he syked himself out and ended up walking the blue part. I was in heaven skiing to the bottom to wait for him. Once he reached the green part of the trail again, he put his ski's back on and finished the trail. That was our last trail and we went home. TJ said to me in the car, "Don't ever ask me to go skiing again....I did it once for you and am done!" I'm hoping that when we have kids, he will change his mind, because he honestly did an excellent job for his first time skiing :)
Here are some pictures of him skiing :) He is in the Gray Jacket :)

Thankful Thursday

Two posts in a week.......I'm on a roll :)

This week, I'm Thankful for.........

1) My wonderful hubby........through thick and thin, ups and downs, my "not so good" days at work, my complaining, my happy moments and medicine induced mood swings....he makes them better by being at my side. I know it sounds cliche, but I still smile every night when I go to bed and wake up next to him in the morning.

2) Leo.......my furry boy :) My favorite part about Leo is how excited he is every time I walk through the door:) He loves to cuddle when I get home and makes so many cute faces that he makes me laugh.

3) My mom and best friend who makes the days better by her daily, upbeat phone calls and constant love and support. She always knows what to say to make things better.

4) My friends and co-workers who make each and every day a blast and support me no matter what. I am so thankful for Joanne and Kelly who are my constant support group and who make work so much fun. For Shannon and Sarah who always stop by to ask about me and share stories and funny moments. For Ashley who continues to amaze me with her strength and who has me hooked on Stampin up card making :) Lindsay for always calling to tell me about my Mullen friends and to check up on me. I'm so thankful for each and every one of you for making my days better.
