Bed and Breakfast

Let me just start by saying that our romantic weekend getaway at By the Side of the Road Bed and Breakfast in Harrisonburg was AMAZING and just what we needed :) As we were driving home we kept commenting on how it was just long enough to relax, enjoy each other and forget about everything else. This was our first Bed and Breakfast experience and while we stayed in a cottage, away from the main house, we felt super spoiled. We arrived on Saturday afternoon to a beautiful cottage with soothing music playing in the background and rose pedals on the bed (thanks to my wonderful hubby). Our cottage was two stories with a king sized bed and TV upstairs and then down the spiral staircase to a huge jetted whirlpool tub with a huge fireplace. Shockingly neither TJ or I fell down the stairs!! Soon after we arrived we got ready for a fancy dinner at the Joshua Wilton House and can I just say OMG.........it was probably some of the best food we have ever had. It was a three course meal with a glass of wine. TJ got shepherds pie, salmon with this amazing mac-n-cheese and creme bruelee and I had sauteed mushrooms, ribs over risotto and chocolate souffle. Our waitress asked if it was our anniversary to which we responded, "Not yet," but she still brought us something extra with our dessert (see pictures). On Sunday we went to Cave Ridge Winery for a tasting and a picnic (provided by our B&B). It was a perfect day for a picnic in the mountains. We traveled around and hiked a small portion of the Appalachian trail before returning for some hand dipped ice cream. We went to Jack Browns for dinner (awesome burgers, sweet potato fries and fried Oreo's (yes, fried Oreo's....delicious). Jack Brown's is a little college bar with only a few seats. Needless to say, TJ and I left feeling very old as I'm sure we were the oldest ones in the bar and the only ones not trying to fill up a card with our top 100 beers....hehehehe :) Breakfast was served in a picnic basket to our cottage door every morning around 9:15 am and was delicious. Taking a relaxing bath with a fire going right next to you is AMAZING....I'm still trying to figure out how to put one our bathroom upstairs :)
All in all it was a much needed relaxing vacation where all we had to do was think about and spend time with each other. We highly recommend this B&B for some much need R&R :)

This was our attempt at taking a picture of us sitting in the rocking chairs on the front porch of our cottage :(
